James joined Thompson Jenner in 2017 and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the firm in 2021. He was appointed as a Partner in April 2026 and is based in the firm’s Exeter office.
Prior to moving into practice, James spent ten years working in Commercial Banking across Devon and Cornwall, supporting a wide range of businesses with their financing and growth strategies. This background provides him with valuable commercial insight into the challenges faced by business owners.
James advises a broad portfolio of incorporated and unincorporated businesses, working closely with owner-managed companies to provide practical support across accounting, taxation and business planning matters. He is committed to building long-term relationships with clients and delivering clear, commercially focused advice.
James has particular expertise in Research and Development (R&D) tax credit claims and works with innovative businesses to identify qualifying activities and maximise the tax relief available. He regularly supports companies across a range of sectors in preparing robust R&D claims and navigating the UK R&D tax relief regime.
